Job Summary:

Personal will be at the Maxwell Ambulatory Healthcare Center. The Optometrist will provide examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures, as well as diagnosis of related systemic conditions utilizing refractive, pharmaceutical, and rehabilitative (low vision, contact lens, and binocular vision) procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements:

-Degree: Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from a school or college of optometry accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).

-Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPA) license to practice optometry in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia

-Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records. Proficient in operation of standard office equipment, such as personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and telephone systems.

- -Knowledge of medical privacy and confidentiality (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA]), and The Joint Commission (TJC), and the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).

-Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

-Must be skillful and tactful in communicating with people who may be physically or mentally ill, uncooperative, fearful, and emotionally distraught.

-Must have knowledge and experience, or demonstrate comprehension during training, with software and databases currently employed at the Medical Treatment Facility (e.g. Microsoft Office, Access, Excel and PowerPoint; Composite Health Care System [CHCS], Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technological Application [AHLTA]). Must possess knowledge, skills and computer program literacy to collect and analyze data.

-Must have knowledge and experience in Patient Advocacy, Patient Privacy, and Customer Relations.

-Must possess organization, problem-solving and communication skills to articulate medical requirements to patients, families/care givers, medical and non-medical staff in a professional and courteous way.

-Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD), Federal, State, non-profit healthcare systems and organizations, to include DoD Tri-Service Military Healthcare Systems, TRICARE purchased care systems, Medicare, Medicaid and the Veterans Administration (VA) is desired.

-Must have and maintain certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
