Job Summary:

To provide consistent acute medical care at the Medical Aid Station.




  • Provide medical care, to include sick call, and treatment of diseases and/or injuries. Review medical histories and progress of patients. Examine patients, make diagnosis of disease, or injury, and treat patient or prescribe a course of treatment. Abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.
  • See advice of consultants, when appropriate.
  • Oversee and monitor other medical personnel in the care and treatment of patients to include nontherapeutic services such as physical examinations. Sets up sterile field and prepares heparinized saline solutions. Maintain aseptic technique, manipulates wires and catheters, anticipates catheter tip location, operates fluoroscopic single-plane and bi-plane x-ray equipment and selects appropriate angulations and positions x-ray table and image intensifier for optimal display of angiographic anatomy while assisting physician in conducting various medical procedures.
  • Prescribe medications, as appropriate, and in accordance with the privileges, hospital rules, and regulations.
  • Prepare documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives, ensuring that all documentation and reports are legible and complete. Utilize the appropriate electronic medical record system for patient encounters if available.
  • Refer all requests for patient/hospital information that cannot be handled by clinic personnel to the Patient Administration Division.
  • Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program at all times while providing services under this contract.
  • Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all JC standards.
  • Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen or referral.
  • Provide life, limb, and eyesight emergency care as able and immediately transfer patients in a medical or surgical emergency to a hospital under a physician care as necessary.
  • Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
  • Independently prescribe medications from approved formulary. Administer intra-muscular or intravenous medication as appropriate. Issues temporary profiles according to policy provided by the governing MTF.

  • Provide clinical supervision of RNs & LPNs and other ancillary personnel who rotate through the medical station, insuring patient safety and compliance with MEDCOM regulations on scope of practice for medics and nursing personnel.
  • Responsible for pharmacy operations within the Medical Station, to include oversight of the Pharmacy Technician and reviewing all prescriptions before they are dispensed.




  • Minimum of one year of experience within the last three years working as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must possess a master's degree in nursing from an accredited educational program. Areas of specialties for NP positions include, but are not limited to: Acute Care, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Neonatal, Pediatric, or other specialties identified for the position.
  • Must meet Continuing Medical Education (CME) as needed.
  • Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as a RN in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Must have or obtain a current, valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number prior to performing services.
  • Have and maintain certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Centre (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Possess a Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) number as required by state agencies where the provider is licensed.
  • Have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is the only program accepted. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is desirable but not required.
